Dr. Sharon Irving is an Associate Professor of Pediatric Nursing, holds the Miriam Stirl Endowed Term Chair in Nutrition, and is Vice-Chair of Graduate Education in the Department of Family and Community Health at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing. She participates in formal and informal education of pre-licensure and graduate nursing students. Dr. Irving holds a clinical appointment at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), in the Department of Nursing and Clinical Care Services, as a Nurse Practitioner in Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition and as a Clinical Nurse Scientist in Critical Care. Dr. Irving’s primary area of inquiry is nutrition therapy for infants and children experiencing critical illness. She eagerly engages in interdisciplinary education, clinical practice, research inquiry, and quality improvement initiatives, Dr Irving has focused her work on anthropometry, nutrient requirements and delivery, and monitoring nutrition delivery tolerance. Her commitment and ongoing work in the field of clinical nutrition have earned her fellowships in critical care medicine, the American Academy of Nursing, the American Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (ASPEN), and the Leonard Davis Institute at the University of Pennsylvania. She was awarded the 2023 Faculty Award for Women of Color at the University of Pennsylvania.
