Surgical Nutrition Support RD/Assistant Clinical Nutrition Manager, University of Virginia, Charlottesville, VA

Kate received her BA in Biology from Knox College, her MS in Nutrition from Kansas State University and a doctorate in clinical nutrition from Rutgers. She practiced surgical nutrition support for more than 20 years at the University of Virginia Hospital. Her role evolved and until the end of 2021, she was the clinical nutrition manager of the University of Virginia Hospital inpatient dietitians. She recently took a position as clinical nutrition manager at the Western Colorado Veterans Administration hospital in Grand Junction. She is the past Chair of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Practice Group – Dietitians in Nutrition Support and prior to that she was the editor of Support Line, the newsletter for the Dietitians in Nutrition Support. Her publications and presentations cover the topics of indirect calorimetry, enterocutaneous fistulas, ostomies, critical care nutrition, and perioperative nutrition, including Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS).
