Dr. Jose M. Pimiento is a Surgical Oncologist from the GI Oncology program at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center, where he is the Medical Director if the Inpatient Surgical service and the leader of Upper Gastrointestinal Oncology section. Dr. Pimiento was born in Colombia where he attended Medical School at the National University of Colombia. He did his surgical training in Saint Marys’ Health system in Waterbury, Connecticut a Yale University affiliated program where he completed 1 year of research in vascular biology; additionally he trained in Surgical Oncology and Surgical oncology research at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer center. His area of clinical and translational research is in foregut cancers including gastric, esophageal and pancreatic malignancies, with special interest in chemoprevention strategies, nutritional support of patients with gastrointestinal malignancies and minimally invasive techniques for gastrointestinal malignancies. He was awarded the Stanley J Dudrick Research Scholar award in 2019.
