Masters in Surgery from the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (1997) and a Ph.D. in Medicine (Digestive System Surgery) from the Universidade de São Paulo (2000). Postdoctoral research at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in 2008 on a CAPES fellowship. Retired full professor of surgery at the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais. However, I still carry out activities in the Institution such as professor at the post- graduation program in Nutrition at the Faculty of Nursing at UFMG and at the post-graduation program in Applied Sciences to Surgery and Ophthalmology at the Faculty of Medicine at UFMG. Co-editor in chief of the journal Nutrition, member of the editorial board of the journals Clinical Nutrition, Current Opinion on Metabolic and Nutrition Care, Journal of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition. Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and the American Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition. Honorary member of the European Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition. Member of the Colégio Brasileiro de Cirurgiões, (CBC) and in the 2006/2007 she was the head of the Minas Gerais chapter. Currently, she is the coordinator of the Quality and Safety committee of CBC.
