Ellen Dresen is a Doctor of Nutrition and Food Sciences (Dr. troph.) with a strong interest in critical care nutrition and doing research on various medical nutrition therapy approaches in different patient populations. She conducted a RCT evaluating the effects of different protein dosages on the skeletal muscle mass changes in adult long-term ICU patients. As a post-doctoral researcher at the Department of Anaesthesiology, Intensive Care, Emergency and Pain Medicine at the University Hospital of Wuerzburg she is currently involved in diverse research projects focusing on diverse medical nutrition therapy strategies (macro-/micronutrients, specific antiinflammatory/immunomodulatory nutrients such as omega-3 fatty acids/fish oil, optimal route, timing and dosing of nutrient supply, etc.) in different cohorts of critically ill patients (e.g., cardiac surgery patients, patients receiving extracorporeal membrane oxygenation [ECMO], burn patients, etc.).
