Dr. Compher completed her doctoral studies at Drexel University in 1999, with Dr. John Rombeau as her dissertation chair, studying the impact of high fiber wheat bran diet on a rodent model of colon cancer. She is Professor of Nutrition Science and Chair of Healthy Community Practices at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing. Dr. Compher was ASPEN's first Editor-in-Chief of Clinical Guidelines, President of ASPEN in 2016-17, and is President of the ASPEN-Rhoads Research Foundation. An author of the 2016 and 2023 ASPEN-SCCM Adult Clinical Guideline for nutrition care in the ICU. Dr. Compher has been working for more than 10 years on strategies to diagnose malnutrition in clinical settings, most recently as a core leader of the Global Leadership Initiative on Malnutrition (GLIM). She recently led a consensus process for the use of GLIM in the ICU setting.
