David S. Seres, MD is Professor of Medicine in the Institute of Human Nutrition, Director of Medical Nutrition, and associate clinical ethicist at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. He is a physician scientist, with numerous publications, and clinical nutrition specialist for 35 years. He serves as section editor for nutrition at UpToDate, a medical reference utilized in more than 190 countries and by 90% of academic medical centers in the US, has coauthored numerous clinical guidelines, edited a textbook on nutrition in the ICU, and has authored nutrition chapters in numerous major medical and surgical textbooks. Recently, Dr. Seres served on the planning committees for a five-day NIH conference on malnutrition in the ill, and a summit at the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) on educating doctors about nutrition. He is a member of the Medical Advisory Board for Consumer Reports, has been a consultant to Attorneys General of two States, the Federal Trade Commission, and Truth in Advertising, Inc. on issues related to fraudulent advertising claims. He is a national award recipient for his work in nutrition education and public policy and was elected a fellow of the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition.
