Douglas Burrin is a Research Physiologist at the USDA Agricultural Research Service Children’s Nutrition Research Center and Professor of Pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Burrin is recognized for his accomplishments in the fields of human nutrition, metabolism, and gastroenterology. Dr. Burrin has been a pioneer in the use of swine as a translational, animal model of human pediatric nutrition and gastroenterology. He has made important contributions in understanding how parenteral nutrition and lipid emulsions impact intestinal adaptation and liver disease. He has received national awards for his research including the Mead Johnson Award from the American Society for Nutrition, the Growth and Development Award from the American Society for Animal Science, the ARS Senior Scientist of the Year and the Bruce R. Bistrian Clinical Nutrition Mentorship Award from ASPEN. He has served as past chair of the ASPEN Rhoads Research Foundation Grant Review Committee and Board member.
