Ezra Steiger MD
Emeritus Professor of Surgery, Department of General Surgery, Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, OH
Dr. Steiger graduated from the Ohio State University College of Medicine in 1966. He did his surgical internship and residency at The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he worked with Drs. Dudrick, Wilmore, Vars and Rhoads in the new science of intravenous feeding and surgical nutrition. He joined the General Surgery Staff at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in 1975. He started the Cleveland Clinic’s Nutrition Support Team, its Home Parenteral Nutrition Program and its Intestinal Rehabilitation Program. He was president of the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition, and the Medical Staff at Cleveland Clinic. He was an honorary member of the American Dietetic Association and delivered the American Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition prestigious Rhoads Research lecture in 2007. He was elected to Fellowship in ASPEN in 2011. He has published several hundred journal articles and book chapters Dr. Steiger is a Consultant in General Surgery and Gastroenterology in the Digestive Disease Institute of the Cleveland Clinic and a Professor of Surgery in the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine. He is actively involved in managing patients needing Nutrition Support in the Hospital and at Home and in evaluating and managing patients with Intestinal Failure.
