Dr. Starr is a Research Health Scientist at the Durham VA Medical Center and an Assistant Professor in the Division of Geriatrics in the Department of Medicine at Duke University School of Medicine. Dr. Starr is Co-Director of the Center for Aging Clinical Nutrition Laboratory and her research and professional experience has focused on community dwelling older adults at high risk for chronic health conditions and functional disability. Currently, Dr. Starr is Co-PI for clinical research trials investigating the impact of meal-based protein on lean muscle mass in obese, frail older adults undergoing weight loss interventions, and PI for a Career Development Award assessing the benefits of perioperative protein supplementation in vulnerable geriatric populations, including those participating in the VA Perioperative Optimization of Senior Health Program (POSH). Finally, she serves as a content expert for the ASPEN Surgical Nutrition Evidenced Based Guidelines and American College of Surgeon, Geriatric Surgery Verification Committee Member.
