Laura Van Althuis (pronounced Van Al-tice) is in her 4th year as a clinical acute-care dietitian and clinical research coordinator at Duke University Hospital. As a member of Dr. Paul Wischmeyer’s research team, she has been performing indirect calorimetry since 2021 and led publication efforts to describe the metabolic needs of ventilated COVID-19 patients. In gaining experience performing numerous metabolic cart assessments utilizing ventilator circuits, masks, and canopy hoods, Laura enjoys sharing this knowledge at webinars and nutrition conferences. In 2022, she received the ASPEN New Practitioner Award in the Research Section. Laura and her husband enjoy kayaking, gardening, and serving their church community in their free time.
