Dr. Mary McCarthy has been a nurse scientist working in the Center for Nursing Science & Clinical Inquiry at Madigan Army Medical Center since 2005. She obtained her Master's degree in Physiological Nursing and a PhD in Nursing Science at the University of Washington in Seattle. She received formal training in genetics at the NINR Summer Genetics Institute in 2009 and completed a certificate program in genetics at Stanford University in 2020. She was inducted as a Fellow into the American Academy of Nursing in 2016 and the American Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition in 2020. She has received over 2.5 million dollars in federal funding for her research over the past 10 years; her bench-to-population approach has generated a diverse portfolio of interventional studies connected by a common thread of improving health behaviors, specifically diet and physical activity, to impact health outcomes, military readiness, and resilience.
