Dr. Nikhil Pai is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at McMaster University, and Staff Physician through the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology at McMaster Children’s Hospital (MCH). He completed his training at the Hospital for Sick Children (University of Toronto), Boston Children's Hospital (Harvard Medical School), and Massachusetts General Hospital (Obesity, Metabolism & Nutrition Institute). Dr. Pai’s research focuses on the role of nutrition and microbial therapeutics in inflammatory bowel disease, intestinal failure and fatty liver disease. He is principal investigator of three multicenter RCTs studying the role of fecal microbiota transplant (FMT) in pediatric IBD, and dietary fiber in pediatric MASLD. He was awarded the 2023 ASPEN Stanley J. Dudrick Research Award, Ontario Innovation Award for his work on pediatric FMT and shares a patent for his work in urine metabolomics for the diagnosis and monitoring of pediatric IBD. He currently leads the McMaster Children’s Hospital Pediatric FMT Stool Bank, serves on the Canadian Malnutrition Task Force (Canadian Nutrition Society), and is the Associate Editor for the Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition (JPGN). He will be joining the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology & Nutrition at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (University of Pennsylvania) in July, 2024.
