Sharon Irving is an Associate Professor of Pediatric Nursing at University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing. She also holds a clinical practice appointment at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, as a Nurse Practitioner. Dr Irving's research focuses on optimizing nutrition therapy to improve patient outcomes for critically ill infants and children, in areas of nutrition assessment, delivery, and tolerance in critically ill children. She is a member of the CHOP Nutrition Support collaboration, recipient of the 2021 Clinical Nutrition Team of Distinction Award. Dr. Irving is Vice-Chair in the Department of Family and Community Health, at Penn Nursing. She teaches at the undergraduate and graduate level. She co-authored the 2017 comprehensive nutrition support guidelines for critically ill children, co-endorsed by ASPEN and the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM) and the 2019 best practice recommendations for nasogastric feeding tube location verification from the NOVEL project. Dr. Irving was the 2019 Distinguished Nutrition Support Nurse for ASPEN. She is a Fellow of the American College of Critical Care Medicine, the American Academy of Nursing, and a 2021 inductee as a Fellow of the American Association of Parental and Enteral Nutrition – a new FASPEN!
