In recent years the topic of malnutrition mainly focused on protein-calorie deficiencies with minimal discussion on malnutrition in the setting of micronutrient deficiencies. Micronutrient issues in pediatrics and adults will address the association of micronutrient deficiencies and malnutrition, including the effects both have on the other. This webinar will discuss difficulties in maintaining normal micronutrient levels in individuals secondary to inadequate nutrition intake and excessive nutrition losses due to anatomical changes.

From their unique perspectives, experts from ASPEN, BAPEN and CNS-CMTF will review the impact of COVID-19, the evidence supporting the integral role of nutrition, and provide valuable insights into the challenges that COVID-19 brings to practitioners across the continuum of care. Strategies and practical solutions to overcome these challenges in intensive care, acute care, primary and long-term care will be discussed. Special considerations for transitions of care between settings will also be discussed.

This webinar will address the current community feeding programs for older adults according to the recent GAO report, how community programs can be identified prior to hospital discharge for malnourished or at-risk patients, as well as how screening for food insecurity can help identify possible community malnutrition.
