This informational webinar will address the evidence and value of tailoring nutrition therapy during critical illness and review of literature pertinent to optimal energy and protein delivery. Then it will dissect scientific literature related to indirect calorimetry and the role of supplemental parenteral nutrition to optimize clinical outcome in critically ill patients. Case examples will be provided.

  1. Define and apply early goal-directed nutrition to the care of critically ill patients
  2. Critique the scientific literature related to the value of indirect calorimetry as a nutrition assessment tool
  3. Evaluate the role of supplemental parenteral nutrition to optimize clinical outcome in critically ill patients
