The 2019 Dudrick Award winner, Jose Pimiento, MD, FACS has the distinct honor of planning the Dudrick Research Symposium for ASPEN20. Dr. Pimiento is an Associate Professor of Gastrointestinal Oncology and the Gastric and Esophageal Oncology Section Leader for the Department of Gastrointestinal Oncology at the Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute in Tampa, FL. Additionally, Dr. Pimiento is the Director of Inpatient Surgical Services for the Department of Oncologic Sciences at the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine. Throughout his academic career, Dr. Pimiento has been interested in combining knowledge of clinical and basic science to improve the outcomes for patients undergoing surgical care, more specifically related to ways in which translational science could impact the mechanisms that govern the outcomes of multimodality oncologic treatments.
Over the last couple of years, Dr. Pimiento and his multispecialty clinical research group has focused on studying cancers response to therapy and essential predictors of clinical outcomes in patients undergoing multimodality therapy of advanced upper gastrointestinal and pancreatic cancers such as indirect markers of significant clinical malnutrition including sarcopenia and altered baseline immunity.
Dr. Pimiento has assembled an exceptional panel of faculty for this year’s Dudrick Symposium.
Learning Objectives:
Identify opportunities for improvement of cancer management and care through advancing the knowledge of the interactions between nutritional therapy and neoplastic processes
Delineate the correlations between the different components of multimodal cancer care and nutritional support therapy
Establish the role of correlative sciences that overlap with nutritional support and that enhance the outcomes of oncologic patients
