Objectives
Describe indications for central and peripheral parenteral nutrition (CPN/PPN).
Review components of PN and how to formulate a PN prescription.
Discuss toxicities associated with both short- and long-term PN use including hyper/hypoglycemia, electrolyte derangements, and liver test abnormalities.
Examine home PN issues including central venous access, cycling and tapering the formula, and Medicare coverage guidelines.
