In 2015, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and ASPEN published the Consensus Indicators Recommended for Identification and Documentation of Pediatric Malnutrition. In their Special Report, the authors provided a “Call to Action” empowering clinicians to utilize these recommended diagnostic indicators to identify and document pediatric malnutrition. This webinar will address malnutrition in the pediatric population, specifically highlighting practical applications in implementing the consensus indicators as well as details in performing a nutrition focused physical examination. In addition, recent AHRQ data documenting outcomes in the malnourished child will be discussed.
Learning Objectives:
Outline the relationship between pediatric malnutrition and clinical outcomes including hospital length of stay and readmissions
Describe the techniques in performing a nutrition focused physical examination in the pediatric patient
Apply pediatric malnutrition indicators in selected patient cases and discuss documentation and coding implications
