Research and the Therapeutic Application of Micronutrients in Parenteral Nutrition Support
Date
September 16, 2010
This teleseminar is directed toward clinicians who are uncertain as to the uses, effects, quantities, types, and interactions of micronutrients used in parenteral and enteral nutrition support solutions. The research behind the inclusion and/or exclusion of some micronutrients, dependent upon the pathology and medical status of the patient, as well as the interactions occurring amongst some, is rapidly evolving, but more remains to be elucidated. The seminar will cover requirements, food sources, biochemical/metabolic functions, signs and symptoms of deficiency/depletion, assessment of status and repletion, as well as available clinical research on efficacy of different doses.
Learning Objectives:
Identify the micronutrients that may be of positive and/or negative concern in various physiologic conditions.
Critique the evidence-based research behind the use or exclusion of assorted micronutrients in various physiologic conditions.
Assess the micronutrients in their stable form and in combination with other micronutrients and/or components of the parenteral nutrition solution that have the potential to create an unstable solution.
